Lisa Rickard, Philadelphia-born, first fell in love with the nude allegorical figure as a teenager when she began drawing regularly from a live nude model who was a ballet dancer. Hoping to learn the skills necessary for figurative painting, she attended Temple University’s Tyler School of Art subsequently earning her BFA in Graphic Design from the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design. Lisa spent close to 2 decades as a commercial artist first in an advertising agency followed by designing/illustrating in the marketing department of a global corporate company.
Her time as a dancer & dance instructor has strengthened her insights into the power of the human form. She feels like it guides her work creating what she refers to as a series of allegories in her paintings. As she continues to refine her skill-based training, she is particularly interested in painting the nude human form as an exploration of the intangible ~ our infinitely complex & mysterious psychological characteristics, feelings & behavior patterns.
Her work has been in gallery & museum exhibits in the USA. She has also received awards from the International Guild of Realism, The Artist Magazine, International Artist Magazine, Richeson75 International & The San Fernando Valley Arts & Cultural Center. She is a 14th, 15th, 16th & 17th finalist in The Art Renewal Center International Salon. She has been published in Fine Art Connoisseur, American Art Collector, Best of Drawing & several art exhibition books. Three of her paintings & three drawings are included in the NASA launch to the moon as part of the Lunar Codex project (www.lunarcodex.com).
